Sausage with Peppers and Onions Sandwich

I made this sandwich last week and it was a big hit with Ryan.  I sauteed savory italian sausage with onions, garlic and red and green bell pepper before finishing it off with a little dry white wine.

Makes: 4 sandwiches

You will need:

  • 4 Italian sausage links (mild, or hot)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, rinsed, seeds removed, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, rinsed, seeds removed, sliced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine
  • 4 stadium or hoagie rolls
  1. Brown sausages about 6-8 minutes on per side, transfer to a plate, cover.
  2. In the same pan, add onion, bell peppers and garlic and cook until slightly tender, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add white wine to the pan, cook 3 minutes.
  4. Slice sausage and return it to the pan. Cook 5 more minutes.
  5. Place hoagie rolls under a broiler until slightly toasted, about 1 minute. Fill with sausage, peppers and onions mixture.

These are great when served with crispy oven fries. Enjoy!

This was soooo good. I wasn’t sure how I would like it because me and sausage are sometimes good, sometimes not. We used Italian Turkey Sausage and I added mushrooms that needed using and topped it all off with shredded Havarti cheese and OMG it was divine. Me and my hubby both ate 2 (the buns were small and I didn’t eat lunch, ok? … don’t judge me!) LOL
