Up before sunrise…are you serious? at Life's Ambrosia

It has been a long time since I updated my Little Moments section, but a recent trip to take pictures of the sunrise over Seattle, made me realize, as cliche as it may sound, a sunrise is definitely a moment that should be cherished. I am not one of those people that sleeps in until the late afternoon and I actually get up quite early on the weekends, but still, when Ryan nudged me the other morning and said “Des its a little before sunrise, I want go to take pictures, come with me?” My first thought was…are you serious? It is too early. But being the loving, supportive wife that I am, I said what the heck. And it was actually more enjoyable then I imagined.

During work week, I do get up before the sun comes up and on occasion, I have even stayed up till the sun comes up, but that is another entry all together. But I realized the other day as I was sitting at Kerry Park in Seattle at 6:45 in the morning, that I have never actually watched the sun come up. So as Ryan set up his camera, I sat on a bench with Pumpkin in my lap and glanced out over the city, took a couple deep breaths of the cool morning air and suddenly I was very relaxed.

It was as if all of the work and family worries disappeared, I just sat there and watched. The usually loud city, looked so quiet and peaceful. There weren’t many cars or people. I wasn’t running around trying to get a bunch of things done. I was just relaxing, and embracing the start of a new day. And at this moment I realized that sunrise might actually be my favorite time of day. I think that with the hustle and bustle of life, watching a sunrise falls really low on the list of things to do, and that is perfectly fine. However, when things get too busy and too hectic, and you just need a break take time one morning to watch it and cherish it, I bet you will be glad you did.

Glad to hear that are more people out there that believe in slowing down, I truly think it makes life a lot more enjoyable.

I have a few friends back home who would not like it if i said I was “from” Seattle, but I have been living here for the past few years. :)

Ryan is going to be famous if he keeps taking pictures like that. I too love to be up early sometimes and watch the sun come up. We can’t forget to take the time to enjoy the beautiful things this life has to offer!

Thanks Camila! My husband uses a Nikon D40 camera body with an old Non-Ai Micro-Nikkor-P 55mm f/3.5 lens for all the food photos, however for these shots of Seattle he used his AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm DX lens.

I work night shift in seattle. One of the greatest pleasures is getting to watch the sunrise on those clear mornings. Sometimes if it’s really good I’ll wake the patient up and have them watch too.
Oh yeah..and then I get to go home!

Beautiful photos! What you described loving about the sunrise – the quiet, the relaxation – is a big part of the reason I’ve gotten so into photography and waking up ridiculously early over the last few years. I USED to be one of those people that slept till after noon, but now I’m one of those people that gets up 2 hours before sunrise and drags my husband out of bed to join me. He hasn’t joined the sunrise loving club yet :)
