Baseball, Babies and a Bride

I have a love hate relationship with rain. For example, I hate when it rains on Sunday because it makes me want to do nothing. However, I also love when it rains on Sunday because it makes me want to do nothing. Confusing? I know, but let me explain.
Whether you work a standard 9-5 job and cherish your weekends because it means that you don’t have to go to the office or you are a stay at home parent and cherish your weekends because it means your whole family can be together, the weekends are often the time when we do whatever we want. Well that is always the intention anyway.
Far too often weekends are just an extension of the workweek, we’re just doing housework instead. I am guilty of it. Many a time I have used my weekends to clean the house, do some laundry, grocery shop, run to the vet and run any other miscellaneous errands I may have to get done. That is all easy, and sometimes enjoyable when it is nice and sunny outside. In fact, when it is sunny outside and I don’t get things done I often feel guilty. But not yesterday. Yesterday, it was gloomy, cold and rainy outside so I used that as an excuse to make the executive decision to do nothing and you know what? I didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty.
How do you go about doing nothing? Well first of all, it was pajama day. Nothing is better then being nice and comfy in your pajamas all day. Second, we got our favorite comfy blanket and pillows and settled on the couch. Notice a common thing here? Doing nothing is all about comfort. Next, I grabbed some of our favorite snacks and we turned on the T.V.. It would’ve been the perfect day for a Lord of the Rings marathon but we did that a few weeks ago ;-). Instead we watched a few cheesy and I do mean cheesy Lifetime movies and some of the Baseball World Classic. But you know, it really wasn’t about the movies or baseball. Lying on the couch meant that I wasn’t worrying that I had some laundry that should probably get done or that I was almost out of dishwasher detergent and should go to the store. No, instead it was about slowing down and just taking some time to recoup. Now I know there are a lot of you thinking that you can’t possibly do nothing for the whole day and that is probably true. So maybe don’t take the whole day, maybe just watch one cheesy movie. Sometimes you need that. Sometimes you need to just do nothing and not feel guilty about it. That is why, sometimes, I actually enjoy it when it rains on Sundays.
