Sharon: LOL on getting the kid down the block to shovel you out now :) When I was younger I would always wish that we had snow days because it meant no school but then again, here in WA the snow would always melt before we had to do any clean up.Your snow day activity sounds lovely, I just love the sound of a crackling fire on a cold winter's day. And at least snow is pretty to look at, rain on the other hand, not so much. :)

In Minnesota, we don't have as many rainy days as you, but a winter snowstorm can do the same thing. When I was single, it seemed I could take weekend downtime whenever I wanted to. After I got married, though, there were so many more "have-to's". But when the snow started to swirl around the house, I could throw something in the crockpot while my husband filled the fireplace, and we'd settle down to a wonderful do-nothing afternoon. Of course, unlike rain, we had to face snow removal the next day. Now we're much older and a little smarter -- we just hire the kid down the block to shovel us out.

Jeanne- Bravo to you for teaching your children the importance of down time. When I was growing up my mom had "quiet time" which meant we went to bed half an hour before bed time and read. I hated it at the time, but now I find it hard to get to sleep without my quiet time before bed. Life can be so overwhelming at times it is essential to unwind and recharge.

I enjoyed reading about your rainy Sunday. My kids, husband and I have learned to recognize the signs of when a Lord of the Rings marathon or pajama day is in order. I consider it one of my duties as a parent to teach my children to respect and honor the need for "down time".

Rita: Yeah, those of us that live here in the Great Northwest kind of get accustomed to the rain. As long as your are inside and don't have to do anything it can almost be comforting to hear the sound of raindrops hit the window. I'm glad you like the picture! :)
