Baseball, Babies and a Bride

I can’t believe that May is already over, it seems like only last week it was pouring down rain and it seemed like the sun would never shine in Seattle again. Now here we are starting June and the sun has finally started to shine. It is amazing what a little sunshine can do for your mood. For me it makes me want to get out of the house, explore the city, take the dog for a walk, head to the farmer’s market and of course enjoy a picnic outside with my husband.
I knew that this weekend was going to be nice so I had planned on having a picnic. I also knew the the best place to get everything I need, while enjoying a gorgeous afternoon in Seattle was Pike Place Market. I know, I know it is probably the most touristy thing to do here in Seattle, but I can’t tell you how much I love going there. The energy is wonderful. So many different sights, smells, and tastes. It is a total sensory overload and pretty close to being my favorite place in the city. I knew I wanted my picnic to be simple yet delicious and decided antipasto selections would be the best way to go. So the first place Ryan and I stopped was DeLaurenti Specialty Food. They have a wonderful wine selection, various kinds of olive oils, meats and over 100 different kinds of cheese. For this picnic I picked up some nostrano salami, prosciutto, mozzarella and a nice bottle of extra virgin olive oil. Next we walked through the crowded market to pick up a couple of tomatoes, fresh basil and a baguette. We finally had all of the things we needed for the perfect Sunday picnic so we headed home.
Once we got home, I sliced the tomato, mozzarella and baguette, placed them along side the proscuitto and salami, drizzled a little extra virgin olive oil over the top, sprinkled it all with some kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper and headed outside. We sat outside enjoying our antipasto, some homemade lemonade and the sunshine. It was the perfect way to end a weekend, we didn’t even care that the Mariners lost, ok maybe we did a little bit ;-)
I’m curious, how did you spend your weekend?
