My mum buys battered cod from our local chippy (we live in England) and we have them in sandwiches like this, so good!! Jackie- It wasn't straight from the fridge, but it was still a little cold. I say I had it sitting on the counter for about 15 minutes or so before I used it. Memoria- Thanks! You could use a non-alcoholic beer such as O'Douls, Sharps or Beck's. They do have some alcohol in them so someone under 21 can't purchase them but they do have less alcohol than beer.
