Book Club

Happy Monday everyone! Can you believe that it is already the middle of September? I can’t but there is no denying it. I have already seen Halloween candy and carving pumpkins for sale at the stores. And at Costco they even had their Christmas decorations up! There are still 98 days until Christmas! But really, who is counting?…….Me……. I am counting. Because the time from September to December 31st is my absolute favorite time of year.

I’ve been thinking about starting a book club here on the blog. We could all pick a book every month. It doesn’t necessarily have to be food related, although I love reading about food both fiction and non. Then we could discuss in a blog post with comments, weekly or biweekly, what we’ve read. What do you think? Would anyone like to join?
Kellan’s first swimming lesson went well. He was a little confused at first and for some reason the water was super cold. But I think he had a fun time splashing around and learning how to kick and paddle.
I tried to bake two cheesecakes this week. Tried being the key word. Both cakes cracked so bad a fruit topping wouldn’t have saved them. But at least they tasted good. In related news, I think I need a new pair of jeans.
For those of you that watch Parenthood, did you enjoy the season premier? I did. Haddie going off to college at the end had me bawling like a baby.
In other TV news, I really enjoyed the new Matthew Perry show Go On. So glad he is back on TV. He was always my favorite friend. Could he BE any funnier?

I would definitely participate with a book club! I am an avid reader w/o any book clubs in my silly little town so I would definitely participate with this. I noticed Night Circus in your picture and The Girl Who Carried The Moon, which is funny b/c I just bought both of those. Also, I loved the episode of Parenthood too. My husband was laughing at my big, ugly tears as Haddie ran back to hug her parents.

I’m all for a book club! There was a book club in my town, but not many people joined so they cancelled it :(

I saw the new Matthew Perry show (he’s my fave friend too) I liked it. Thought it was cute – might have to add it to the DVR list!

I could have written your first paragraph. I know it is probably sick but I love walking through the holiday related aisles at Costco, even this early. The whole rest of the year is just a warm up for NOW. :)

I’d love to do a cookbook club with other foodie type people online. Regular books, well, I have my hands full with 2 other IRL bookclubs! :) But I’ll read along.

Watch Parenthood–I think they are going to break Sarah and what’shisface up and have something happen with the photographer. I really hope I’m wrong.

And since you’re a fellow tv fan… :) are you watching Revolution tonight? What new shows are you excited for?

And Parenthood… yes, I watched as I always do and it was honestly a little hard to watch, it felt really really chaotic. I agree with Laura that they’ll try and do something to Sarah and Mark, but I hope it’s not with Ray Romano!!

An online book club sounds like fun! I would totally join! I’m due to have my baby boy in mid October so I’m thinking I might not have that much time for reading at first, but am definitely interested. The School of Essential Ingredients was a great read, btw.

I just watched Go On on Hulu and loved it too! He’s just like the Chandler I know and love.

I really need to get back to food blogging again. Sigh. We just moved up to the Seattle area so I’ve been busy unpacking and organizing and getting read for the baby. Doing some cooking but nothing really blog-worthy!

I agree with everyone about the Ray Romano Parenthood thing. Please don’t put them together!! Yay for the book club! I’ll get a few book ideas picked and then post them on the next Monday musings. Whatever everyone wants to read we’ll read. How does that sound?

Shelley- I am reading the Night Circus right now and loving it! I read The Girl Who Chased the Moon a little while back and really enjoyed it too. Have you read any of Sarah Addison Allen’s books?

Laura- I watched Revolution and I really liked it. I think it has the potential to be a really good show. I am pretty excited for New Girl, the Middle, Modern Family and Criminal Minds. You?

Sherilee- Thank you for the tips on the cheesecake! I will definitely check out that Epicurious recipe. I’m tired of the cracks! Although, I don’t mind recipe testing cheesecakes. haha.

Try a water bath for the cheesecake. That’s supposed to work the best for preventing cracks. Just wrap the springform pan in foil (to make sure the water won’t leak in) and set it in a roasting pan. Once it’s on the oven rack you can pour hot water into the roasting pan.
As for books, I recently read Bringing Up Bebe and French Kids Eat Everything, which another food blogger recommended. It’s got me on a French kick now because I also read French Women Don’t Get Fat and purchased a French cook book (Bonne Femme). They’re really interesting for foodies and new moms!

I have read Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen and I’d like to read The Peach Keeper. Have you read either of those? I’m so glad to hear that the Night Circus is good, I can’t wait to read it!
