Monday Musings

Greenlake, Seattle

It’s no secret that Fall is my absolute favorite season. The last couple of weeks the color has been down right gorgeous. When the weather has been nice, Kellan and I have been taking walks. The air is crisp and cool. And the trees are golden. It’s perfection I tell you. Perfection. What is your favorite season?

  • I did it. I finally tried a Zumba class. I had been considering it for a long time but the friend I was going with and I just could never make it work. Until last Wednesday. We had a sitter watch our babies. We got ourselves into our workout clothes and we danced our butt off. I must say it is quite the work out. But oh so fun. Have you ever taken a class?
  • Do you buy your spices in bulk? I’ve been doing it off and on for a while but I’ve found a local spice store that sells them at a pretty fair rate. I just bought enough spices to fill 6 of my spice jars and it cost me $6.00. If I bought just one of those in a jar at the store it would cost that much. You can’t beat that savings!
  • I read all of the Twilight books a couple years back like a fiend who just couldn’t get enough. Yet, the movies just don’t do it for me so I won’t be in line at midnight this week to see the latest installment of Breaking Dawn. The only movie that I think may be as good or better than the book is Fried Green Tomatoes (my favorite movie of all time). What do you think about the book vs movie debate?  Do you usually prefer the book or the movie?
  • I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is already less than two weeks away. I’ve got a couple of recipes in the works. I’ll probably be posting a little more than normal so that I can share them in time for your celebrations. I’ve got a new dip, a stuffing and a couple more side dish recipes in the works involving twists on mashed potatoes and a farro salad. Are there any other recipes you’d like to see?

What’s the name of the spice store? Sounds awesome!

You know, I hadn’t even thought about a spice store since I moved back to DC. Used to frequent one in Denver. Next stop Google. I love fall. I love that our yard is so tiny I don’t have to rake leaves – they just walk away on their own.

Fall is also my favorite time of the year. I live in Florida now so it is not quite the same since we still have temps in the 80′s but there is no humidity and that is a blessing. I am originally from New England and go back there in the fall when I get a chance to smell the air and put on a sweater. Hmmm! My family has been serving the same Thanksgiving dinner since I can remember as a child. Each time my sister or I try to suggest something different we are totally outvoted. There would be mutiny if we changed the stuffing recipe! At least everyone likes the food and that is their odd way of showing their appreciation. I do, however, look forward to your recipes and perhaps sharing them on my blog about living simple and easy.

    Take care, Jeanne

StephenC- Did you find a good spice shop in DC?
Jeanne- I have always wanted to visit New England in the fall. I’ve never been but it looks beautiful!
