Monday Musings at Life's Ambrosia

I like to read. I read a lot. I have always read a lot. Curling up with a good book is one of my favorite things to do. Books transport you to another world. And after reading one you feel like you know the characters, their town, their families. But rarely does a book actually move me as much as The Book Thief did. It is an excellent book, told by a very interesting narrator in Germany during the Holocaust. It is moving, heart wrenching, heart warming and simply well written. I just finished it this weekend and if you haven’t read it yet you should.

We’ve decided to make each Friday night at our house pizza night. Not ordering in or going out but making home made pizza. We’ve done this now for just a couple of weeks and I’m always looking for topping ideas to try. What is your favorite pizza topping? Anything outlandish that you just love on pizza? I was watching Pizza Paradise and they put tater tots on it. Not gonna lie…I kinda want to try it.
The Oscars are coming up soon. It is the only awards show that I really like to watch. The sad thing about it is that I don’t think I’ve seen a single move nominated this year. Have you seen any? Any that you recommend?
One of my friends found this ultimate spice rack and shared it with me the other day. How neat would that be to have in your kitchen?
I don’t know about you but for the longest time I seriously just rolled my fitted sheets into a ball and stuffed them in my linen closet. Not anymore. Leave it to Martha Stewart to show me just how easy it is to make them nice and tighty. Mind. Blown. How to Fold a Fitted Sheet.

Have never left a comment on your very sweet Monday Musings before but three things touched me enough today to respond today …

Since you loved ‘The Book Thief’ so much I highly recommend Viktor Frankyl’s “Man’s Search For Meaning” …

I giggled out loud at the fitted sheet folding but it also made me kind of sad because doing it has become a lost art (my daddy taught me how to do that when I was a wee one ca. 1963) but then again it made me very happy that you’ve re-discovered the art and shared it here :-)

And last but not least, I grew up in L.A. and was connected to/worked in the film industry for many years … Can honestly say that the Oscars are nothing more than an internal Hollywood political baloney money making machine where all involved ‘collectively’ make millions of dollars by promoting it to the unsuspecting public … However, if I did have to choose a current film to recommend it would be ‘Lincoln’ hands down even though a few historic artistic liberties regarding accuracy were taken … It’s an important subject and very well done film IMHO …

My family’s favorite pizza, hands down, is Cabbage Pizza. Sounds strange, I know, but when you saute cabbage till just tender in olive oil with a few chopped scallions, a hearty helping of garlic, a touch of bouillion paste (we like Better Than Bouillion No Chicken Base) and salt & pepper to taste then layer it on a partially baked crust on top of a light sprinkle of mozzarella, followed by a dusting of grated parmesan, then another light sprinkle of mozzarella…you would have died and gone to Cabbage Pizza heaven! If you like cabbage, you have to give it a try. It’s different, but delicious!

Deeli- I will definetly check out that book. I really did love the Book Thief. And I actually thought that Lincoln might be the one that I do see. I really think Daniel Day Lewis is a great actor.
Netty- Cabbage pizza does sound a bit out there but based on your description I am pretty sure I would like it. Getting Ryan to try it on the other hand… I’ll work on it :)
