A Reason to Celebrate

Celebrations are a popular thing in just about every culture. Why not? They’re fun right? We celebrate birthdays. We celebrate holidays. Weddings. The birth of children. The purchase of our first home. Wedding anniversaries and blog anniversaries. That’s right. Today, October 7 is the anniversary of the day that I started the blog back in 2008.

These past two years working on the blog have been wonderful. Not only have I been able to explore my ever growing passion for food and cooking but I have been able to share it with people. I have been able to meet wonderful people from around the world. I have been lucky enough to meet some of you in person. While others I consider very good friends despite the fact that I only know you by email address or twitter handle. These relationships, to me, have been the most rewarding part of blogging. Who would’ve known that the blogging world would be full of so many wonderful, kind, talented and caring people. I am truly honored to be part of such a wonderful community. It really is a reason to celebrate.

One of my favorite ways to celebrate is to open a bottle of wine or champagne and toast to the event. Another favorite way is to celebrate with food of course.  However, for the longest time, one of the things that I always struggled with is how to pair the two together. Not anymore however.  Not since I found “What to Drink with What You Eat” written by Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page the authors of my other kitchen must have “The Flavor Bible”.

“What to Drink with What You Eat” has everything you ever wanted to know about pairing food with a particular wine. Want to know what wine to serve with your roasted chicken? Chardonnay is great for that. Have a wonderful bottle of Brunello that you brought back from your trip to Italy but aren’t sure how to use it? Serve it with a perfectly grilled aged steak or maybe go the cheese and wine route and serve it with some aged asaiago. I’m tellin’ ya this book has just about every kind of pairing you can think of. Seriously people, I’m not kidding. There is even an entry for Church’s Chicken.

    Congrats! I like to celebrate by going out to eat… somewhere new. Doesn’t have to be fancy. Just fun & new. A few friends around doesn’t hurt, either!

    I like to change the celebration menu every time. We just celebrated my husband’s 40th birthday with a psuedo Canadian Thanksgiving menu of Turkey, poutine and butter tarts, plus lots of contributions from our friends. We also had 40 year old Port.

    Congratulations, what a tremendous amount of work you have done!!!!!!!
    My favorite way to celebrate is a big dinner with all the fixings at the house with lots of folks but as I have gotten older a wonderful resturant has become my choice.

    YAY! Two years is an achievement! I hope there are many more years to come. I love your recipes, and they are great for parties. Speaking of parties, that is how I love to celebrate! I celebrate with friends over drinks and hor’dourves in the comfort of my home.

    Congratulations on your two year anniversary! My favorite way to celebrate a special occasion is definitely to go OUT! Eating a beautifully prepared meal in a great restaurant, spending that time with loved ones, and relaxing for long enough to enjoy the moment make my special occasions that much more memorable and happy.

    Congratulations on your blogoversary!! My favorite way to celebrate is to have a few close friends over, and make yummy comfort foods – the kind where everyone leaves happy and pleasantly full. Add to that some good wine and laughter and it’s a great party!

    Congrats on the anniversary :) :) My fav way to celebrate is by going out a for a fancy meal. I love to experience new restaurants in my area and that is usually how I get a visit in.

    Congratulations on your 2nd anniversary. Superb photos, great recipes. You should try to always include a beverage/wine pairing (when appropriate).

    I enjoy celebrations with family, friends, music (on shuffle there’s always a chance of hearing Christmas carols in the summer…), special wines and always great food.
    Poker chips, cheeses, tequila, Champagne sabering, laughter, campfires, chocolate…
    It’s ALL good.. Enjoy!

    I love your blog & send my friends here all the time. Your pulled pork enchilada recipe is my go to meal for special occassions & I even made it for myself on my brithday! I celebrate lots of occassions w food, especially holidays. But my favorite tradition is the Birthday Waffle I make for my kids. On the morning of their birthday they get a fresh, hot waffle w ice cream scoops, whipped cream, sprinkles & cherries! It is definately a breakfast they look forward to & so much fun!

    Congratulations for the 2 year mark! How exciting for you. I, for one, am grateful that you started this blog…I love love love it! I have found some of my favorite recipes on your site…and your pictures are just incredible!
    My favorite way celebrate something for myself is small and intimate. I love to just be with my boyfriend or really close friends, open a bottle of wine, and laugh my ass off!
    I love to go all out if I’m helping others celebrate though. I love to make lots of yummy food and give gifts…spoiling comes to mind!

    One of the best finds on Facebook was your Page! I love the way you introduce each recipe, or sometimes, just write about a bit of yourself and life. Your choice of books as a gift makes perfect sense since your recipe presentation often pairs the food with what’s going on in your life, a perfect pairing. My personal celebration pairs my family with a favorite food, often something homemade by my 84 year old European-born Mom. You just can’t get that kind of meal anywhere else but in your own home, made with real ingredients and love. Being able to share in the celebration with my parents is a celebration of life!

    Since my boyfriend is in medical school in Michigan and I’m in grad school in New York, our current favorite way to celebrate is with a skype date! :-)
    I love how technology makes long distance so much easier :-)

    Congratulations on two years! Around here, with both me and my husband in school and a busy two year old, celebrations tend to be food we wouldn’t normally get to have at home. For example, I recently bought some sushi-grade tuna along with nori and sushi rice to make spicy tuna roll sushi to celebrate Fall Break. I know, I know, a silly thing to celebrate but why not? In our house, food *is* the celebration.

    HaPpY AnNiVerSarY! Love your blog; the pictures are just as divine as the recipes! My favorite way of celebrating a special occasion is to simply gather close the people who are near and dear to me. That being said and done, lots of laughter and great food come next. Add some great wine and it’s a party! I, too, will be celebrating my 2 year anniversary of my wedding to my wonderful husband. For our wedding celebration we invited all our closest friends and family, got a big tent, hired a wood-burning pizza truck to cater (yes, there actually is such a thing!), a crazy dj, and had a BLAST. Everything was relaxed and fun! Our anniversary celebration will be equally as fun – this year we’re going to NH with my parents! I’m sure by the time we all return home there will be quite the number of tales to tell.. We already have restaurants picked out and my Steven is sure to be surprised by his gift (a custom made framed photo of us with words describing our life together all over the mat).     I LOVE where there are special occasions, because for me it is an excuse to do something fun! For my dad’s birthday the other day, i went and got him his favorite beer (audacious apricot…mmmm good!) i made him a huge card out of an old moving box, i made his favorite meal (meatloaf, mashed potatoes and corn), decorated the house to look like a celebration, made him a pumpkin spice pie, and decorated the “man chair” with all kinds of things for the KING and that is where he sat all night to open gifts, blow out candles and eat his dinner! lol..

    basically, i just really love a fun little soiree for any time of celebration!

    Long time reader, first time poster but I wanted to say how much I love your blog. I found it looking for a roasted tomato soup recipe and now your’s is my go-to. My favorite way to celebrate is watching the people I love enjoy my cooking creations. And of course chocolate cake helps, too :)
