Homemade Pita Chips

Making homemade pita chips is easy! These crispy oven baked chips are great for snacking and dipping in your favorite dips!

I know that we’ve all seen the small bags of pita chips at the store. They are great to grab for a party or for snacks. But, did you know that you can make your own homemade pita chips right in your oven? They are a fraction of the cost of the bags of pita chips and in my humble opinion, so much better.

You only need a few ingredients to make them and you can make as little or as much as you want. Homemade pita chips really are a great snack that you’re going to want to make again and again.

Let’s talk about what you’ll need to make them.

Homemade Pita Chips Ingredients:

Homemade Pita Chips Ingredients
  • PITA BREAD: Pita bread is a leavened flat bread that originated in the Middle East. It is made from flour, yeast and water. It’s super versatile and often used for dipping into hummus or making gyros. It is often sold in the bakery section or bread aisle of the grocery store. You can find it with a pocket and without. For this recipe, we’ll be using pita bread that doesn’t have a pocket.
  • NON-STICK SPRAY: To coat the baking sheet so that the pita doesn’t stick.
  • OLIVE OIL: To brush on top of the pita. This will help them brown and get crispy.
  • SEASONING SALT: I like to use Johnny’s Seasoning Salt but you can use your favorite all purpose seasoning blend.

Step by Step Photos and Instructions:

These Homemade Pita Chips are so easy to make! I’ve included step by step photos and instructions so that you can follow along.

  • STEP #1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick spray.
  • STEP #2: Cut each piece of pita bread into 8 triangles. Place the chips in single layer on a baking sheet.
  • STEP #3: Combine olive oil and seasoning salt together in a bowl and then brush onto the pita.
  • STEP #4: Bake in the preheated oven for 8 – 10 minutes or until browned. Serve immediately.

Homemade Pita Chips are great for snacking on their own, but also are great dipped in your favorite hummus. Here are some of my favorite hummus recipes to try:

Spicy hummus is a classic hummus recipe with a kick!

The brininess of olives adds a Mediterranean twist to this olive hummus.

And of course you can’t go wrong with a classic! Roasted Garlic Hummus is always a hit.

And baked Pita Chips aren’t only for dipping in hummus! They are great in other dips too like:

Green Chile Cheese Dip. It’s hot, cheesy and perfect for parties!

Hot Crab Spinach and Artichoke Dip is a classic and a personal favorite!

These were SO easy, and they’re delicious. I took the advice of others and added some fresh thyme from my garden. Yum. I have to stop eating them so that I can serve them with the hummus I just made : ) Thank you!

You’re welcome Nancy! I too have a hard time resisting the temptation to eat them all. On a few occasions I’ve actually had to make more :)

Helen- fresh thyme sounds like a delicious addition. I will have to try that next time thanks for the tip! I hope you enjoy the garlic hummus.
Thanks Ann and melted butter is always a good thing :)

Great recipe. I did something similar to this, Deseree, for a church function not to long ago. Went over great with ice cream and cinnamon ;-)

    Great picture.

I love baked Pita Chips. I buy the pitas that can be separated so the chips are thinner and then brush them with melted butter before baking.

I made some of these a few weeks ago with some leftover fresh thyme, so good. Can’t wait to try your roasted garlic hummus!
