Garlic Almonds

Garlic Almonds make a flavorful, hearty snack. They are super easy to make and great for an afternoon snacking or eating on the run.

I’m a big snacker. A big salty food snacker. That means that I won’t often reach for cookies instead I’ll reach for chips. Which frankly, isn’t much better for you. So when I find something that satisfies that salty craving and my hunger and is pretty good for me I’m all for it. These Garlic and Pepper Almonds are just that.

When it comes to snacking, a handful of almonds is always a great choice. They are super filling and a great way to curb that afternoon snack monster. Generally a handful of salted roasted almonds is great but sometimes a little more flavor is called for. Taking a cue from one of my favorite kitchen companions ever, The Flavor Bible, I decided to toss freshly toasted almonds in a mixture of garlic powder and black pepper. It is the perfect, guilt free snack.

What ingredients you’ll need:

The great thing about these garlic almonds is that you only need a handful of ingredients that you’re likely to have on hand.

RAW ALMONDS: You’ll want raw almonds for this recipe, not almonds that are already roasted. You should be able to find these pretty easily at your local grocery store.

SALT: A must. The almonds will not have any flavor and salt is needed to bring flavor to the mix.

BLACK PEPPER: Use coarse ground. I like to use a pepper grinder rather than the pre-ground stuff.

GRANULATED GARLIC: You can also use garlic powder. I prefer to buy granulated garlic instead of garlic powder because it doesn’t clump. If you use garlic salt, omit the other salt in the recipe.

OIL: This will help the seasoning stick to the almonds.

How do you make Garlic Almonds?

Seasoned almonds are actually super easy to make! Just follow these easy instructions.

STEP #1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine almonds, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and water together in a bowl. Toss to coat completely.

STEP #2: Place in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.

STEP #3: Remove from oven, transfer to a bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with granulated garlic, pepper and remaining salt.

STEP #4: Return to baking sheet and bake in oven for 5 – 10 more minutes. Allow to cool completely before serving.

I like to store these in an air tight container so that they stay fresher. They should last several days.

As you can see these are easy to make and they are easy to switch up the seasoning blends if you want. You can give them a kick with DIY Cajun Seasoning or even make your own Curry Powder. Either way, these Garlic Almonds are the perfect snack to have on hand.

  • 1 ½ cups whole almonds
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt plus more if desired
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

    I have, as I type, a ZipLock container with those toasted almonds sitting by my side. (Only complaint is those almond skins sticking to my teeth — but that’s another matter.)

    This concept, of putting some bite into my bites sounds awsome! Can’t wait to try this out! Next, I’ll bet, you’ll be trying some cayenne pepper with these?
