The twinkling lights, the Christmas music on the radio, the crackling of a warm fire, the tattered but cherished decorations and the anticipation of Christmas morning make this one of my favorite times of the year.
While Christmas day is the big to-do, it is not just the day that I love. I love the entire season, and yes I think its a season all its own. Starting the day after Thanksgiving (sometimes a little earlier), I like to get out my decorations, put up my lights and start watching Christmas movies.
I think one of the reasons that I love Christmas so much is that it is the time of year when a lot of traditions are upheld and for many new families it means its time to start some new ones. Some of our traditions include cutting down our own tree, completing a Christmas puzzle, watching A Christmas Story and It’s a Wonderful Life, going to the tree lighting in downtown Portland (we’re always visiting there for Thanksgiving so we never miss it!), trying to catch some kind of show or symphony and driving around town to enjoy the lights.
I also love Christmas because of the food, surprising huh? Just think of all of the desserts, the appetizers, the holiday cocktails. Oh, I can’t wait to get into the kitchen and try some new recipes that I will of course be sharing on this blog. Hopefully they will be something you would like to add to your holiday collection.
With that said, I am off to the grocery store to pick up a few things. I hope you all have a great Christmas season and I look forward to sharing mine with you.
