Hot Honey Mustard Wings

Looking for a change from the norm? Hot Honey Mustard Wings are a sweet n’ spicy variation of everyone’s favorite game day recipe!

Every football season our house becomes the chicken wing house. I probably test out a different chicken wing recipe every week during the season. Now when it comes to chicken wings there are those of us like me who prefer them without sauce like my super popular deep fried chicken wings.  While others, like my husband, prefer chicken wings messy and saucy like Sweet Chili Chicken Wings or these Hot Honey Mustard Wings.

But I mean, you really can’t go wrong with any kind of chicken wing. Am I right??

The thing that makes these different from your more traditional Buffalo Wings, is the delectable sweet n’ spicy Honey Mustard Sauce.  Let’s talk about what you need to make it:

Ingredients for Honey Mustard Chicken Wings:

  • CHICKEN WINGS: Obviously. I like to use party wings which are chicken wings that are already cut into the flats and the drums. You can also use whole chicken wings or separate the wings yourself. Watch this video to show you how to separate them.
  • BUTTER: This is going to give your sauce a bit of richness.
  • YELLOW MUSTARD: I haven’t tried this with another mustard but I love the vinegary taste that the yellow mustard adds to this sauce.
  • HONEY: Where the sweetness comes from in the sauce.
  • SALT
  • GRANULATED GARLIC: You can also use garlic powder. If you use garlic salt, omit the extra salt in the recipe.
  • CAYENNE PEPPER: This will add heat to your sauce. You can use  as little or as much as you like.
  • HOT SAUCE: Use your favorite hot sauce like Crystal, Tabasco etc.

Step by Step Photos and Instructions:

These Honey Mustard Chicken Wings are pretty easy to make!  Follow along with these step by step photos and instructions showing you just how easy.

  • STEP #1: Unlike traditional buffalo wings, these chicken wings  are baked instead of fried. Place the wings in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet and bake turning halfway through.
  • STEP #2: While the wings are baking, make your sauce. Melt the butter over medium heat and whisk in the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and let it simmer until the wings are done.
  • STEP #3: Place hot wings in a bowl, pour sauce over the top and toss wings to coat completely. Serve immediately.

One of the great things about these wings is that you can make them as mild or as spicy as you like. If you want simple honey mustard wings, leave out the cayenne and hot sauce. If you want them spicier add another 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper.

Storage and leftovers:

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. You can reheat in the oven at 325 until warmed through.

  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

We deviated a little, air fried the wings and tossed in this sauce, we like spicy so did a whole tsp of cayenne pepper and used a dijon mustard (that’s all I had on hand) turned out delicious and family ate them right up! Thank you for the recipe

My family loves chicken wings, especially my kids. They prefer eating meat off bone than already sliced/precut chicken… LOL. One of my kids loves mustard and the other don’t. These wings maybe a great dish to convert non-mustard lover to lover. ;)
