Whipped Butter with Garlic and Pepper

A delectably creamy, spreadable whipped butter with garlic and black pepper just like you’d find in your favorite restaurant. You’ll want to put it on ALL THE THINGS.

You know when you go to a restaurant and they bring you the bread basket loaded with warm bread and soft, smooth butter that spreads to perfectly? Well I am going to show you exactly how you can get that same butter deliciousness at home.

You know when you go to a restaurant and they bring you the bread basket loaded with warm bread and soft, smooth butter that spreads to perfectly? Well I am going to show you exactly how you can get that same butter deliciousness at home.

And it is INCREDIBLY EASY.

What is whipped butter?

As fancy as “whipped butter” might sound, you don’t need any special ingredients to make it. Whipped butter is simply softened butter that has been whipped with a mixer or food processor. This process incorporates air into the butter making it lighter, fluffier and the best part, easier to spread!

Now, whipped butter is great on it’s own but you can easily add different flavors, as I have done here. This recipe calls for butter, garlic, salt and black pepper.

DES’ TIP: If you are using salted butter you can omit the salt in this recipe, the butter will provide enough salt.

What ingredients do you need?

Ingredients for whipped butter in a food processor.

BUTTER: The butter needs to be softened so that it whips well.

SALT: Simple kosher salt works just fine.

CRACKED PEPPER: Use freshly cracked or coarse ground pepper so you get little flakes of pepper throughout the butter.

GARLIC: Usually, I am all about adding as much garlic as possible. However with this recipe, the garlic is raw so you’ll want to use less. Use one, no more than two cloves.

How do you make whipped garlic butter?

STEP #1: Place the garlic in the food processor and process until minced fine. I have a mini-food processor and this works well. If you are using a large food processor, it might not be able to chop the garlic fine. If that is the case simply mince or use a garlic press.

STEP #2: Add in softened butter, salt and pepper. Turn on the food processor and continue processing until whipped.

How do you store leftovers?

This butter is best when used at warm temperature. That is when it spreads the easiest. That said, I do keep leftovers in the refrigerator where they will last about a week.

When you’re ready to use it, simply remove it from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before use. That way it has a chance to come up to room temperature and is easier to spread.

I love this idea. One question: could I get away with regular garlic if it’s blanched a bit?

I’d like to use this on some bruschetta for a dinner party this weekend.
