Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1/2 onion diced
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt plus more to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh cracked pepper plus more to taste
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 jalapeno diced
  • 1 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 15 ounce can kidney beans, drained
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 4 hot dogs
  • 4 hot dog buns
  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • chopped onion if desired

Instructions

  • In a skillet cook ground beef, onion, garlic, 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt and 1/4 teaspoon fresh cracked pepper. Once meat is browned, transfer to colander . Reserve 1 teaspoon pan drippings.
  • In the same skillet, cook green bell pepper and jalapeno in reserved pan drippings for 3 minutes until slightly softened. Return ground beef mixture to the pan. Add remaining ingredients, stir to combine. Bring to a bowl. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Cook hot dogs according to package directions.
  • Place hot dog in bun, spoon hot chili over the top. Top with shredded cheddar cheese and onions. Serve.
