Ham, broccoli and cavatappi pasta combine with a decadent cheese sauce to make this Cheesy Ham and Broccoli Pasta. Perfect for weeknights!

Ingredients
3/4poundcavatappi pasta
5cupsbroccoli florets fresh not frozen
2tablespoonsbutter
1/3cupyellow oniondiced
2tablespoonsflour
12ouncesevaporated milk
1 1/2cupsdiced cooked ham
1/2teaspoonpaprika
1/2teaspoongranulated garlic
1/2 teaspoonblack pepper
Instructions
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Once boiling add salt and pasta. Cook pasta according to package directions. When there are about 4 minutes left, add the broccoli and cook until bright green. Reserve 1/4 cup of pasta water. Drain pasta and broccoli.
While the pasta is cooking start the sauce. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook just until softened. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute then whisk in evaporated milk.
Slowly stir in cheese one handful at a time until it melts. Sauce will start to thicken. Season with paprika, granulated garlic and pepper. Stir in 1/4 cup reserved pasta water and ham. Mix well. Add pasta and broccoli to the cheese sauce. Mix well to ensure that all the pasta and broccoli is coated in the sauce. Season to taste with more salt and pepper.
Notes
