Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8x4 inch loaf pan.
Beat together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs one at a time. Beat in lemon extract.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl. Slowly add to butter mixture. Slowly add milk.
Fold in lemon zest and poppy seeds.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 50 - 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Remove from oven and cool completely.
To make the glaze whisk together powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon milk. Add remaining tablespoon if you'd like the glaze a bit thinner. Drizzle over the bread. Slice and serve.
