Tzatziki Sauce

Tzatziki Sauce is a creamy, tangy Greek yogurt dip with dill, garlic, cucumber and lemon. It’s full of flavor and perfect for pita, gyros, grilled meats and veggies.

Tzatziki Sauce is a classic Mediterranean dip that you’ll often find served along side pita, veggies, fries, and gyros. It also serves as a great sauce to spoon over grilled meats like chicken or lamb. 

And guess what, it is so easy to make at home so that you can have it on hand at all times. And believe me, you’ll want to have it on hand at all times. 

Let’s talk about what you’ll need to make it. 

Tzatziki Sauce Ingredients: 

You’ll only need a handful of ingredients to make this sauce and you might even have most of them on hand already. 

  • GREEK YOGURT: Greek yogurt is thicker and tangier than regular yogurt. It also has a higher protein content. 
  • CUCUMBER: You can use regular or english cucumber in this recipe. It is important to make sure that it is peeled and the seeds are removed. Removing the seeds will make sure that your tzatziki doesn’t get too watery. 
  • GARLIC: Because the garlic is raw in this recipe I really recommend using a garlic press to crush the garlic. That way you won’t have big chunks of garlic. 
  • DILL: You can use fresh or dried dill in this recipe. I always have dried dill on hand so that is what I use. 
  • OLIVE OIL: To add a little fat to the recipe. 
  • LEMON JUICE: Adds acidity and brightness. 
  • SALT/PEPPER

Step by Step Photos and Instructions: 

In addition to not requiring a lot of ingredients, tzatziki is also really easy to make. The hardest part is going to be allowing it chill in the refrigerator a bit so that the flavors meld. 

STEP #1: Use a spoon to remove all of the seeds from the cucumber and dice small. 

STEP #2: Combine all of the ingredients together in a bowl. Mix well. 

STEP #3: Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to give all of the flavors a chance to meld. Serve cold with pita, veggies or as a condiment. 

Storage and Leftovers: 

Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator and use within 3 – 4 days. It’ll start to get watery and the flavor and texture will degrade after that.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cucumber
  • 1 1/2 cups greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons dried dill
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions
 

  • Peel the cucumber and use a spoon to remove all of the seeds. Mince small.
  • Combine all ingredients together in a bowl. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, if needed. Serve.
  • Refrigerate any leftovers for up to 3 days.
