Air Fryer Fish Nuggets

Air Fryer Fish Nuggets are sure to please the whole family. Bitesized pieces of cod are coated in flour, eggs and panko and air fried until golden.

When I am looking for a quick and easy weeknight dinner that I am sure will please the whole family, these Air Fryer Fish Nuggets are at the top of my list.

Fish nuggets are always a huge hit in our home. They are crispy on the outside. Flaky on the inside and the perfect finger food for little ones. My kiddos love how crispy they are and I love how easy they are to make.

Let me show you how!

Gather your ingredients:

  • COD: We are partial to cod in this house because of its mild flavor. It doesn’t have that “fishy” flavor that turns some kids off. You can use any white fish that you prefer.
  • FLOUR: This is used to coat the fish before dipping it in the egg. It gives the egg something to stick to.
  • EGGS: These help hold the crisp panko breading on.
  • PANKO: This is what gives the fish nuggets their crispy exterior.
  • GRANULATED GARLIC AND SALT: To season the panko.

How do you make Air Fryer Fish Nuggets?

First you’ll want to cut the fish into bitesized pieces. If you want to make fish sticks, cut them into longer strips.

Next you’ll want to set up an assembly line of sorts. Place the flour in one shallow dish. Whisk the eggs together in a bowl. Combine the panko, granulated garlic and salt together in another shallow dish.

Sprinkle the fish with salt and pepper. Dredge the fish in the flour, then dip into the egg and then finally into the seasoned bread crumbs.

Finally, depending on the size of your air fryer, cook the fish nuggets in batches at 400 degrees for 8 – 10 minutes or until cooked through

Of course I like to serve this with my homemade tartar sauce.

Homemade cocktail sauce is always an option too!

Like I said, my entire family loves these fish nuggets. And I bet yours will too! Just look how perfectly crisp and flaky they are !

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound cod cut into bite sized pieces
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • non-stick spray

Instructions

  • Season the fish pieces lightly with salt and pepper.
  • Set up an assembly line with 3 bowls: flour in one shallow bowl, beaten eggs together in another bowl and the panko, salt, and granulated garlic in another bowl.
  • Dredge the pieces in the flour, then dip in eggs and press into bread crumbs.
  • Spray the air fryer rack and the fish with non-stick spray. Air fry at 400 degrees for 8 - 10 minutes. Turn halfway through and spray once more with non-stick spray.
  • If cooking in batches, place a cooling rack on top of a baking sheet and put cooked fish pieces on top. Place in a warm oven until all fish is cooked.

Notes

Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to cook the fish in batches. You want it to be in a single layer when cooking.
I keep the cooked in a warm oven while I'm cooking all the batches. Don't cover with aluminum foil as it tends to steam the outside so it won't be as crispy. Instead, I like to place a cooling rack on top of a baking sheet and put the cooked fish on that. It allows the air to circulate around the fish.

Glad you enjoyed it, Susie! I’ve never tried using mayo as a way to bread anything but doing some research I don’t see why it wouldn’t work in this instance. Be careful though because it does have salt in it so I wouldn’t add as much salt to the breadcrumb mixture. Let me know how it goes!
