Air Fryer Green Beans

Jump to Recipe

Air Fryer Green Beans are an easy vegetable side dish! My family loves this version seasoned just like the beans at Din Tai Fung!

If you are looking for a great way to switch up your green bean game, you have got to try making them in your air fryer! Air Fryer Green Beans are tender crisp and in the case of this recipe, full of umami flavor.

When we’re talking vegetables, I must say that Green Beans are among the top of the list. I love them because they are so versatile. They are fantastic when they are cooked low and slow like in this Southern Style Green Beans recipe, sautéed in these delectable Dill Green Beans, bacon wrapped in this Green Bean Bundle Recipe and one of my Summer time favorites, Green Bean Salad.

Now it’s time to add Air Fryer Green Beans to the list. Among all those listed above, these are the beans that my kiddos get the most excited about. They jump up and say “OH THE DIN TAI FUNG BEANS!” If you don’t know Din Tai Fung is a Chinese restaurant with locations all around the world. And their green beans are among one of the most popular dishes on their menu. Because they are so ridiculously good. And I have been on a quest to recreate them at home for years!

They are crisp, garlickly and full of umami flavor. Now I’m pretty sure Din Tai Fung stir-fries their green beans but these air fryer green beans are pretty darn close to the inspiration!

Let’s talk about what you’ll need to make them:

Air Fryer Green Beans Ingredients:

There are a couple of ingredients on this list that aren’t necessarily pantry staples but you should be able to find them in an Asian grocery store or online.

Air Fryer Green Beans Ingredients

GREEN BEANS: Fresh green beans only! Neither frozen nor canned will work for this recipe.

OLIVE OIL: Or another neutral oil like vegetable or canola.

SESAME OIL: A super nutty flavored oil and a little goes a long way.

GARLIC: Fresh garlic works the best here too!

MUSHROOM BOUILLON/UMAMI POWDER: This is the key to getting these green beans to taste just like the Din Tai Fung version. It isn’t always easy to find but I buy

STEP #1: Place trimmed green beans a bowl. Add olive oil, sesame oil, garlic, umami powder and salt. Toss to make sure the beans are completely coated in the mixture.

STEP #2: Place in the air fryer basket and cook at 390 degrees for 8 minutes. Shaking the basket halfway through. Season to taste with salt and serve.

Air Fryer Green Bean Variations:

Like I said, my whole family loves these beans. They are so full of flavor and perfectly crisp. That being said, you can season them just about any way you want! Just swap out the sesame oil and mushroom bouillon powder/umami powder for more olive oil and your favorite seasoning blend. Keep it simple with salt and pepper or try adding Italian seasoning or Greek seasoning.
