Blue Cheese Dressing

Creamy Blue Cheese Dressing is easy to make at home! This classic dressing only has a handful of ingredients and is perfect for salads or as a dip.

Skipping the dressing aisle and making homemade dressing is something I really love to do. And it also works great in a pinch when you realize that you’re out of your favorite. Most of the time you’ll have all of the ingredients on hand to make a good dressing. Whether it’s homemade ranch, garlic vinaigrette or creamy pesto, making your own dressing is a cinch.

Since I have many other classic dressings on my blog I figured it was about time that I make classic Blue Cheese Dressing and it’s just as easy as all of the others! Let’s talk about what you will need to make it.

Blue Cheese Dressing Ingredients:

You might be surprised to find that, aside from the blue cheese, you will probably have most of the ingredients for this dressing on hand.

  • BUTTERMILK: A lot of blue cheese dressings will call for vinegar of some kind but I use buttermilk in this recipe. It will add acidity and more creaminess.
  • SOUR CREAM: Will also add creaminess and acidity.
  • MAYONNAISE: Gives the dressing a smooth and rich texture.
  • GARLIC: Use a single small clove of garlic to add a touch of garlic flavor to the dressing. Resist the urge to add more than one because the raw garlic will quickly overpower the other flavors.
  • WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE: Adds umami flavor.
  • BLUE CHEESE CRUMBLES: You can buy blue cheese crumbles or simply crumble a wedge of blue cheese.
  • SALT AND PEPPER

Step by Step Photos and Instructions:

Making your own blue cheese dressing is so easy! I use a mini food processor but you can also use a blender if you have one.

  • STEP #1: Combine buttermilk, sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic and Worcestershire sauce in the bowl of a food processor (or a blender). Blend until mixed well.
  • STEP #2: Add in the blue cheese and pulse until desired consistency. The consistency of the dressing is totally up to you! You can simply stir in the blue cheese if you want it chunky or blend until there aren’t anymore crumbles if you want it ultra creamy. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Storage and leftovers:

Store any leftovers in an airtight container and use within 7 days.

This blue cheese is great as a salad dressing but also a great dip for veggies or buffalo wings.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles
  • salt and pepper

Instructions
 

  • Combine buttermilk, sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic and Worcestershire sauce in the bowl of a food processor (or a blender). Blend until smooth.
  • Add in blue cheese and pulse until desired consistency.

Notes

The consistency of the dressing is totally up to you! If you like a chunkier blue cheese, simply stir in the blue cheese crumbles. If you like it creamier blend until there are no more chunks.
