Garlic Butter Shrimp

Everyone loves this Garlic Butter Shrimp. It’s quick, easy and makes a great light weeknight meal or the perfect appetizer for a party.

One of my kitchen mottos is “all good things start with garlic or butter” But when you’ve got garlic AND butter like in this recipe? Helllllooooo perfection.

Perfection is exactly what this Garlic Butter Shrimp is. Garlicky, buttery, so full of flavor and it can be on the table in under 15 minutes!

What ingredients do you need:

SHRIMP: Large shrimp. I happened to find these gorgeous wild caught pink gulf shrimp when I made this but any large shrimp will do. To make this dish even easier, if you can, buy shrimp that has already been peeled and deveined.

DES’ TIP: When buying shrimp they are sold by how many shrimp there are in a pound. For instance, large shrimp will be about 31/35 shrimp per pound. Extra large shrimp will be 26/30 shrimp per pound. Colossal shrimp will be 13/15 shrimp per pound while small shrimp will be 51/60 per pound. Here is an article about shrimp sizes for more info.

BUTTER: Salted or unsalted works just fine in this recipe. If you use salted, you’ll likely need to use salt to season the shrimp after cooking.

GARLIC: Use fresh minced garlic friends. I know that they sell minced garlic in jars but fresh garlic will taste better every time.

CRUSHED RED PEPPER: This is optional, but the red pepper flakes at a bit of a kick and a nice color to the dish.

LEMON JUICE: A fresh squeeze of lemon juice brightens everything up a bit.

PARSLEY: Just to add another pop of color to the dish!

How do you make Garlic Butter Shrimp?

Guys it is SO easy! Follow these step by step photos and instructions to see just how easy.

Step by Step Photos of garlic butter shrimp

STEP 1: Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

STEP 2: Add garlic and crushed red pepper. Cook just until garlic is fragrant, about 30 seconds

DES’ TIP: Pay attention to the garlic so that it doesn’t burn. Burnt garlic will taste bitter.

STEP 3: Add the shrimp to the pan. Cook until shrimp are cooked through this will take about 5 minutes. Cooked shrimp will be opaque white with bits of pink.

STEP 4: Drizzle with lemon juice, sprinkle with parsley and salt and pepper to taste.

See how easy is that?? This garlicky buttery shrimp is a huge hit with the whole family. I served it with a green salad and some crusty bread to sop up all of that garlic butter!

You could totally do this with roasted garlic! I would add the roasted garlic at the same time that you would add the fresh and cook for the same amount of time to make sure that it doesn’t burn. It would be fantastic I bet!
