A Peppermint Patty Cocktail is the perfect Christmas drink! Hot chocolate, peppermint schnapps and creme de cacao make it a Merry Christmas indeed.
Christmas is less than a week away now, friends. You’re probably wrapping presents right? Watching your favorite Christmas classic? Well I have got the perfect cocktail to help you do both of those things: A Peppermint Patty Cocktail.
Nothing says Christmas cocktail like a peppermint patty. Have you ever had a peppermint patty? I’m not talking about the candy. No, no, no. I am talking about a Peppermint Patty Cocktail. It is basically Christmas in a cup friends, and you need it in your life.
I still remember my first Peppermint Patty. On a cold night shortly after I turned 21, a bartender at the bar a few of us servers would go to after work approached our table and asked “Can I start you with a cocktail, maybe a Peppermint Patty?” My immediate thought was, “Is she offering me candy?” Since I figured that wasn’t right, I asked what it was. She replied “Just think a minty hot chocolate for adults”. Mint? Chocolate? SOLD! When I took my first sip, the chocolate and minty peppermint schnapps warmed me right up. It was like Christmas in a cup and each year I make myself at least one.
For this Peppermint Patty Cocktail recipe, I use hot chocolate mix, whole milk, peppermint schnapps and creme de cacao. Oh my gosh you guys. It’s so chocolatey and minty.
And because they make everything better, you’ve got to load it up with Christmas sprinkles. Am I right? Just look how festive it is!
I’ll be taking the next week off from blogging to enjoy the Christmas holiday with my family but I wanted to give you a cheers and wish you a very Merry Christmas!
NOTE: This post was originally posted in 2009. I’ve updated the photos and the recipe. And guys, I’ve made it even better. In addition to the Peppermint Schnapps, this delectable Christmas cocktail has Creme de Cacao too! You are going to want to make it ASAP.
In a saucepan heat 2 cups of milk over medium heat, just until steamy. About 5 minutes.
Once milk starts to steam whisk in hot chocolate mix. Continue cooking 2-3 minutes or until hot chocolate is desired temperature. Do not boil.
Remove from heat and whisk in 1/4 cup of peppermint schnapps. Taste. If desired, add more schnapps.
Ladle mixture into glasses, top with whipped cream and sprinkles.
These would make a great addition to any Christmas party. Go easy on the schnapps if it is a work affair. On second thought, you may want to add just a little bit more. Enjoy!
