Air Fryer Chicken Wings are the crispiest, easiest chicken wings you’ll ever make! And with a drizzle of garlic butter they are unbelievably delicious too!

The Air Fryer has become one of my all time favorite kitchen appliances. It’s great because you can get crispy fried food without all the oil or the messiness of deep frying.

I use my air fryer pretty much every single day. It makes the kids’ dino nuggets at lunch, frozen tater tots and fries. It’s great for reheating leftover fried food but one of my absolute favorite things to make in the air fryer is chicken wings.

It also helps that these particular Air Fryer Wings are not only perfectly crispy they are also drizzled with hot melted garlic butter. There is so much flavor in each bite, your entire family will ask you to make these all the time. Mine does!

What ingredients do you need: 

First, let’s talk ingredients. This recipe actually doesn’t require very many.

All you need is: 

CHICKEN WINGS: I like to buy “party wings” these are wings that have been cut into flats and drummets. You can also make your own by cutting chicken wings at the joint and discarding the tip. If you’d like to see it done, here is a handy video

SALT, PEPPER AND GRANULATED GARLIC: The combination of these 3 ingredients work as a dry rub for the wings. 

DES’ TIP: I prefer granulated garlic over garlic powder because it doesn’t cake in the jar like garlic powder will. The only difference is the texture, if you’ve got garlic powder you can use that too!

BUTTER: Use the real stuff here. Not margarine. 

FRESH GARLIC: Use as much as you want! The recipe calls for 6 cloves but if you’re a garlic lover add a few more. If you want to cut down on the garlicky flavor, 4 would be perfect. 

How do you make chicken wings in the air fryer?

Guys, it’s SO easy! Let me show you how.

STEP #1: Place chicken wings, salt, pepper and granulated garlic together in a bowl. Use your hands to massage the seasonings into the wings and to ensure they are coated. 

STEP #2: Put the chicken in the air fryer basket. Cook at 390 degrees for 30 minutes. Shake after 15 minutes. Then shake again after 10 more minutes. If the wings still aren’t as crisp as you like cook an additional 3 minutes. 

DES’ TIP: Unlike other air fryer recipes, you don’t need to cook the chicken wings in a single layer. Shaking the basket will be enough to help get all the wings crispy. 

STEP #3: Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add in butter and cook just until garlic is fragrant, about 30 seconds. Remove from heat. 

STEP #4: Toss wings in garlic butter. Serve immediately. 

DES’ TIP: You can either pour the garlic butter over the chicken wings in a bowl and toss to coat. Or you can add the chicken wings to the pan and toss to coat.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds chicken wings
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)

Instructions

  1. Combine chicken wings, salt, pepper and granulated garlic together in a bowl. Massage seasoning into the chicken wings to ensure they are coated.
  2. Place chicken wings in the air fryer basket and cook at 390 degrees fahrenheit for 30 minutes. Shake the basket at 15 minutes and then shake again at 10. If you'd like the wings a bit crispier cook an additional 3 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add in garlic and cook just until the garlic is fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  4. Toss the wings in the garlic butter and serve immediately.

    Hi Wendy, I usually do! I just make sure that I shake the basket really well so that all sides of the wings get crispy. You can do this in batches too, just keep the other ones warm as you cook the second batch.

    Do I put all three pounds of chicken wings in the basket type air fryer at once?

    Nope! I think it should be just fine, if anything maybe a little bit less cooking time. When you turn the chicken wings at 15 minutes, you might realize they are cooking a bit faster so you might not need as much time.
